Hybrid Vehicle Operation & Maintenance IMIAL Level 2 (QCF)
This qualification is the first of its kind to address hybrid electric vehicles’ technologies. It is required to ensure the safety of technicians working on high voltage hybrid vehicles.
On successful completion you will gain an IMI approved Qualification which meets requirements (QCF) QCA I.D NO: 500/7055/1.
Who is the course suitable for?
This Award is designed for technicians who maintain and repair hybrid technology vehicles. It contains the knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle's hybrid system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance.
Day One:

  • What is a hybrid
  • Types of hybrid currently used
  • How hybrids optimise energy
  • Battery types
  • Battery monitoring
  • Precautions for high-voltage circuit
  • Synchronous brushless motor
  • Motor control
  • The inverter
  • Hybrid safety testing
  • Series/parallel power split devices
  • The regenerative braking system
Day Two:
  • Servicing issues for the technician
  • Checking 12V charging system
  • Emission testing
  • Brake bleeding
  • Use of aftermarket scan tool
  • State of charge monitoring
  • Battery cell condition
  • Motor generator monitoring
  • Brake/ABS/ESP
  • Active testing
  • Consolidation
  • IMI online test
No practical Exam, only theory exam.
Entry Requirements:
The selection criteria for entry should take into account each applicant’s existing academic/vocational qualifications and experience.
Level 2: Individuals will already have vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at level 2.
